Our Social & Sustainability Efforts

At Capitol, we prioritize partnerships that share our social and environmental ideals. Sustainability has many interpretations, and we’re learning how to best define it for our business.

Artisanal & Women-Owned

Brands that use handwork as an essential part of their product is at the core of our assortments.  We celebrate brands that make one-of-a-kind pieces that share a unique story of where it came from and the artisans who made it. This type of artisanal production is considered the second largest employer of women in small emerging countries, and it is often overlooked as an economical driver for the fashion industry. Dries Van Noten, Cesta Collective, LemLem, Sue Sartor and Yaser Shaw are some of many we carry who support this type of sustainability.

Cultural Inclusivity

We are deeply committed to creating an environment where all ethnicities, ages, and backgrounds are embraced. From the clients we serve to our team and the designers we work with – we celebrate diversity and the beauty that different backgrounds and ethnicities bring to the fashion industry, and the world.

Supporting Local

We believe firmly in creating meaningful relationships with organizations in our community.  Much of our work at Capitol supports partnerships with local multi-industry talents. From artists and caterers to stationers, florists, designers, and non-profit organizations… all who we have worked with for years. The sustainable results of creating these long-lasting relationships in our direct community ultimately helps reduce our carbon footprint, one step at a time.

Organics

Capitol believes in treating your skin and the environment kindly. It is our priority to offer clients a variety of apothecary brands that use organic materials and are free of PCBs and Phthalates including Susanne Kaufman, Wonder Valley, and Vintner’s Daughter.

Many designers we carry are committed to the use of organic textiles in the production including Gabriela Hearst, The Elder Statesman, Alejandro Alonso Rojas, and Raquel Allegra.
